In May, Ty and Linda bought and old Spanish hacienda near Cuernavaca, Mexico. The preamble to
having more babies? Nope, the preamble to divorce. That's Hollywood for you. In July it was
announced that Ty and Linda were going to make a move together--for Ty's independent company, Copa
Productions--and in October came the news that Ty and Linda weren't going to make anything together,
except possibly, a bit of news. The separated, once and for all, with Ty figuratively throwing up
his hands and saying, "That's it, it's all over." Linda was going to stay on in their house with
their children; he was going to New York to work with Katharine Cornell in the new
Christopher Fry play, and there you had it, a nice try, but it just didn't figure to last. This was
a marriage that had had rumors swimming around it almost from its inception. The first year, even
before Romina was born, you could get odds that the whole thing was doomed. Since Taryn's birth,
the odds had shifted. There were those who thought the Powers had finally come to an understanding
with each other, and life. They had two magnificent daughter, a home you could get lost in, and event
if things aren't perfect, how much can you brood on a golden Sunday afternoon when you're lolling
about the swimming pool, and the butler's handing you drinks? Trouble is there are other days in the
week, and the gold had just plain tarnished for the Powers. Questions around town included the
joking, "Who's going to get custody of the statue?" a reference to an unclothed bronze of Linda
which was once her birthday present to Ty. The Powers aren't going to rush into getting a divorce,
which leads some seers to assure some other seers that therell be other reconciliations before the
marriage is laid to rest forever. As for me, I'm very doubtful.
