Hollywood's Ten Most Exciting Women Rex has risked his handsome neck
what no other actor ever dared do before?
...and you're in for some rare surprises!"

Any man, anywhere, who would sit down and name the ten most exciting women in Hollywood is really asking for it. But controversy is good for the soul, I'm told-and besides, I?m not undertaking this job as an authority on women, but simply presenting one man's opinion. I hope the charming ladies of Hollywood will look kindly on me from here on in.

GARBO

The star of The Foxes of Harrow heads his list with Greta Garbo, as do most men-but the others, he insists, are named in no particular order.

Garbo heads my list-as she does the list of most actors. She is one of the few personalities who retain the type of glamour the stars used to have-the kind that made top liners of the silent picture days mysteriously intriguing, the kind that made theater stars of yesterday seem remote from everyday life. As an actress, she has always given more illusion in one short scene than most stars give in ten pictures. It's the Garbo mystery that's exciting, that intangible enchantment about her that's like being hit with a bolt of lightning-a mystery surrounded by an aura or real glamour

ANN SHERIDAN

Rex has never met Ann Sheridan, but what he?s seen of her on the screen is more than enough for him. She's seen next in Warners' Silver River.

Even though I've seen her only on the screen, I remember her vividly. I was struck with her extraordinary magnetism and directness. I was struck with her extraordinary magnetism and directness. Yet with all this, I?m sure she is warm and human, without pretenses-with a distinctive quality of earthiness that never descends to blatant sexiness. Common sense and feminine magnetism are a rare combination in women-but Ann Sheridan has both. I am most anxious to meet her on my next trip to Hollywood, for I am sure she lives up to her wonderful screen personality.

ANNABELLA

"All the characteristics of an exciting woman?but above all, the capacity for loyal friendship," says Harrison of Annabella, Tyrone Power's not-yet ex.

Here's a great, all-around girl, a wonderful companion and a woman with an extraordinary charm. In addition, she has a terrific sense of humor, a sense of fun so infectious she makes everyone around her feel and seem gay. Her unbelievable vitality, too, plus her remarkable range of interests make other near her seem interesting; a most valuable attribute in any human being, as anyone, in or out of Hollywood, surely knows. Annabella seems to possess all the characteristics of an exiting woman-intelligence, culture, generosity, sweetness and, above all, the capacity for loyal friendship.

AVA GARDNER

Rex considers Ava Gardner the most beautiful woman in Hollywood-ravishingly beautiful, in fact, he calls the star of Singapore and The Hucksters

Ava is, I believe, the most beautiful girl in Hollywood. She definitely has the most unusually graceful figure. She defies the old adage, "Beauty but no brains," for she has a native intelligence and wit that make her seem ravishingly beautiful-though there are very likely other girls who are facially or physically more attractive. She's the epitome of that delightful phrase you Americans have added to the ever-adaptable English language-sex appeal. Even her smile seems to sizzle. In short, she'd completely and utterly feminine. What more can anyone say about a woman?

GENE TIERNEY

Rex includes his co-star in "The Ghost and Mrs. Muir," the lovely Gene Tierney, but he has much better reasons than mere business courtesy-as you'll learn

I'm not choosing Gene only because she happened to work with me in ?The Ghost and Mrs. Muir. I'd call Gene exciting because she is a most delightful mixture of cosmopolitan sophistication and schoolgirl naivete - There's a vital, youthful enthusiasm about her that is unfettered and unspoiled by success. Yet, with all this enthusiasm, there is a dreamy quality. In spite of her delightful youthfulness, Gene can still be the worldly sophisticate. She seems to be one girl who will always have a gracious immunity to self-consciousness, equally at home with young and old.

JUDY GARLAND

"I don't think there's any man who can unravel the complexities of Judy Garland," says Rex. You'll be seeing Judy in the big MGM musical, The Pirate.

Judy is a complex person-a difficult girl to know well, but one you feel you want to know. Under her light-hearted and girlish manner, there is something profound-and almost tragic quality about her. Perhaps it's this strange combination that intrigues me about Judy. But in everything she does, I seem to sense a drive within her, a rushing for time in which to do things. No man likes to be able to figure out a woman too easily, for he is almost certain to lose interest just as fast. I don?t think there?s any man who can ever unravel the complexities that go to make up Judy Garland.

KATHERINE HEPBURN

Katie, according to Rex, should be a crusader. Nothing daunts her, and she is a fighter. She's now in MGM's Song of Love, with Paul Henried

N man in his right mind could omit from his list this arresting personality with her fascinating voice and face. There's an impulsiveness, a spontaneity about her that is contagious. She's a woman who seems bound by no codes or formulas, who, if she believes in a thing, will fight for it regardless of personal consequences. Hepburn would have made a great crusader because nothing daunts her.

SYLVIA SIDNEY

Exotic is the word for Sylvia Sidney, the girl with the expressive face no man could forget. Rex really goes for her-as you'll discover

Of all the women I've met, Sylvia has the most exotic face I?ve ever seen. And doesn?t that constitute allure - Looking at her is like reading a book of mystery and enchantment, a tale that carries you to far-off romantic places. Her expressive face, which somehow seems to have so much hidden behind it, is something no man can forget. It gives her a great physical appeal to all who see her.

PAULETTE GODDARD

Paulette, star of Paramount's Unconquered, is unconquerable herself, says Harrison. She has no far, and has never recognized defeat

Paulette is the completely uninhibited woman. She's a person with a terrific drive who knows absolutely no fear because she's so innately courageous. She has made herself entirely what she is; and in overcoming all obstacles, she has refused to recognize defeat-personal or otherwise. Such a woman can't help being tremendously stimulating.

CONSTANCE COLLIER

For many reasons, Rex considers Constance Collier, of Perils of Pauline, one of filmdom?s most fabulously entertaining personalities

Constance is one of Hollywood's most fabulous personalities. She was once the greatest beauty of London as a Gaiety girl, the equivalent of your Ziegfeld girl. She also became one of our greatest actresses, as well as a renowned producer. Everyone of every age loves to have her around. She's the best contribution I know to a gathering of people of every age.
